When we moved to Oregon over 2 1/2 years ago, we bought a brown leather couch from Costco. I've never been too attached to the couch because I thought it was uncomfortable and cold. So when Brad and I noticed last week that it was starting to rip where the seat meets the back, we decided to take it back! Costco gave us our full cash refund (gotta love Costco) and we started our quest for a new couch.
We searched furniture stores. This sales lady at Beck's was "helping" us (more like lingering and being annoying). Our kids, of course, were running all over jumping on beds and couches. The sales lady was saying how it's gotta be hard to shop with kids--hard to concentrate. She is not married and does not have any kids and actually told me that if she were in my situation she'd probably be CRYING. To which I wanted to respond that if I were sleeping by myself tonight in my king-sized bed with my cats (based on info she offered about herself earlier in our conversation) then I would be crying! Get a life, lady!
We scoured Craigslist! Checking constantly for new posts, but unsure we were comfortable going the "used" route. Eager for something to sit on in our living room, we bought this off Craigslist for $200 (much less that our Costco cash):
It was a sweet couch said (by the old lady owner) to have been bought in 1970 for $2,210.23 and it was in mint condition. But it only took one evening for me to realize I can't be comfortable on a used couch. We reposted it to Craigslist and sold it the next day for $325. We finally found "the one" at a furniture warehouse:It's a dark chocolate brown and they say it's microfiber, but it's much softer than any microfiber I've ever felt! It's like velvet! The first day we had it, Brad and I spent the evening cuddled up, eating Girl Scout cookies and watching a movie. Heaven! (Don't mind the huge bare wall, we're still working on wall hangings.)
This thing is huge with plenty of room to run:Yet cozy enough to cuddle:I asked Galla what she thought of the new couch while she was watching one of her movies and she replied politely, "Can we talk about couches later?"
I love this sectional and never knew a piece of furniture could make me so happy.

Yup, just as jealous as I thought I would be! Don't tell Jefferson. We've really been wanting a sectional for a long time. Unfortunately, apartment living doesn't offer space enough for a sectional. PS... love the title of the post! :)
This is totally the couch that I want! The color and everything! What furniture warehouse did you find it at? We have the most pitiful couch on the planet. It was given to us when we got married and haven't had the heart to get rid of it. But, I'm finally at the point where I want it out of my life. Congrats on your new comfy cozy lounging place.
HOLY COW! COSTCO gave you ALL of your money back! That's AWESOME! I Love your new couch too! It looks awesome! We had a similar experience with our red microfiber couch...Bart's dad called it the Harlot Couch. Apparently he had never seen a red couch before...te he he.
I love it! It looks sooo comfy! And I can't believe Costco gave you all your money back!! AWESOME!!
what a deal! our couch is microfiber too, i LOVE it!
May...love the new couch! You are such a fun writer on your blog. I love following it. And yes, we bought belly flops at the Jelly Belly Factory. Fun times. Love you guys.
This will sound weird, but I'm so glad you put that whole story on your blog. I keep telling James that having his parent's hand-me-down couches is *nice* but I want to make my house a home! Seeing how GREAT your couch makes you feel totally confirmed that I deserve a home! :)
PS As soon as we have some money!
ohh...that is one sweet looking couch. Word on the street is that microfiber is a breeze to clean and turns out to be super kid friendly. Nice choice!
Yeah! I remember how happy I was when I got my first sectional. There is something to be said for being able to all fit on one piece of furniture. I also love how easy the microfiber is to clean. I just use warm water with a little bit of fabric softener and a old cloth diaper to clean mine. It cleans well and smells great!
The sweetest part is you actually made money on a new couch. Not bad.
Hey Maylin... I hope you don't mind that I drop in every now and then to catch up with you guys. This is Jenny (Hansen) from Merced.... and my husband Todd served with Brad. Small world. :) Anyway... just wanted to say hello. And, I think you made a good choice. I love the sectional. Very versatile.
That is SUCH a cute photo of your kids running on the sofa!!
