Packing Predicament

So far packing is going well. As I type, Brad is painting our green family room walls back to their bland white. I was packing my shoes. Clothes and shoes are hard because it's so difficult to decide what to keep and what to donate. I kept asking Brad about shoes I wasn't sure if I should keep but he was less decisive and more suspicious of how many shoes I have. I figured I'd better stop drawing attention to my shoe collection or he might not let me go to DSW ever again! So I thought I'd turn to you for direction. The picture is of the specific shoes in question. My dear Doc Martens! I got them my sophomore or junior year of high school and they were so cool (and expensive) at the time. I loved them and they have been well-worn, yet are still in surprisingly good condition (man, those soles are heavy). And though they have been worn so much, I don't think I've put them on in probably 5 years. You would think it was safe to toss 'em, but it's easier said than done. Brad said I should keep them in case I ever become a sister missionary? So I turn to my wise blogging friends for advise.

if you are anything like me, I keep things for years then, I end up never wearing them and throwing them away years down the road. Save yourself some space and toss them. Good luck with the decision making.

I say get rid of 'em! I never wear all the crap I keep and then end up tossing them anyway!

I say that if you haven't worn them in 5 years it's time to get rid of them! Think of it as making room for a new pair. =)

I have to concur... toss em'! I do understand that it's easier said than done. I have a pair of Doc Martens that I bought in London over 8 years ago and I just don't have the heart to get rid of them. Too much sentimental value... Maybe this year is the year though. Think how much lighter your shoe box(es) will be without them!

I onced saw an Oprah (figures! lol) show on DE-cluttering you life and the advice was if you haven't worned the item in 6 months....toss it! It is so hard I know, but they said not even to think about it and just "do it"!

Also, I will emal that recipe to you, I'm glad you like the only one Brad was nice enough to save for you!

I say keep them. That way I can put on my old mission doc's and we can go on "Splits". Everyone needs "missionary style" shoes. (Your husbands think it's funny)

Just think what the quality of life would be without those Docs? How sad would that be to not have shoes to go on "splits". But then on the other hand, how about DI? I'm sure they could use yet another pair of old Missiony type Docs to sell. ... and you and Brad are so way cool to keep your sence of humor during moving!!!
love you. Oh and, I think Jaime wears her docs still on most every sunday with her mid calf skirts!! as does Molly too! And Stephanie! wow...

I just had to come by and see your blog and your cute family! I think you made a good choice getting rid of the shoes, it was probably time. Though, when I remember you, you are wearing those shoes :)
