"Chew" Much of a "Gum" Thing?

Ok, so what's the truth behind gum swallowing? Should I be worried about Galla's stick-a-day habit? It's like a Pavlovian response for her to ask for gum everytime we get in the car. I give her a half stick (for all you dentists/dental students out there, it is sugar-free) which always ends up "down the tunnel," as she puts it. I think I'd prefer that to in her hair or on the furniture, but should I be concerned about this constant swallowing? Pretty sure it's just an old wives' tale, so if the gum keeps her quiet, I'm gunna keep it coming!

I just read about this in a magazine... Totally harmless and passes through just like regular food, same time length and everything. No, it does not take 7 years to digest and no, it will not wrap around your heart. Would "Parent" magazine lie to us?! Keep on chewin' Galla!

I think she will be just fine...Ben never throws his gum out...he always swallow it...not sure why...I personally hate swallowing gum, but I agree with Dani!

if she's going to swallow it, you should get her some w/ nutritional value. Grape Big League chew has some real fruit juice in it I think...

I just read this in the Rocky Mountain Scientific Journal of Digestion and Nutrition, volume 46:

"Recent controlled lab studies confirm, as feared, that little girls swallowing gum result in little girls being awesome, and sometimes very cute.

Symptoms are exacerbated with the swalling of Sugar-free gum."

This may answer a lot of questions.

Me?...altho you don't know me......I'd stick with sugar gum if you could find any that don't contain the dreaded nutrasweet junk. I know Nutrasweet is going to arrive at the top list for cancer inducing, brain deterioration really soon. But then, I totally believe mushrooms cause cancer, too.

You are brave...I would NEVER give my kids gum! It would probably end up in MY hair. Hey--my adsense account says 21 cents, so the one time you clicked--it did work! Feel free to click on the ad each time you visit!

Seriously. If swallowing gum makes you that cute, I'll get my kids to be stick-a-dayers too.
